1. Embracing Diversity: Emergent Learners, Emergent Skills (A Making a Difference Initiative)
- Friday 15 July - NMIT Faculty of Further Education Annual Conference at the Moonee Valley Racing Club.  
It's  great opportunity to share, practice and learn new skills and this year the focus is on classroom practice. The conference will also highlight latest trends in curriculum development, teaching and research and would suit Teachers, Managers with similar client groups in TAFE, Adult Community Sectors, schools and all who deal with migrant English programs, adult and youth learners, practitioners interested in innovative practice and research in further education.
Workshops such as Financial Literacy, Using Melbourne Icons in Adult Science, The Alexander Technique, Early Stages of Learning to Read, Writing for Film and Text are just a few of the 20 workshops on offer as well as 2 keynote presentations titled - What's New in Reading? and Coaching Young People for Success.

3. Teachers Required
CAE (located in the Melbourne CBD) is seeking teachers for emergency teaching in Semester 2 for our large CGEA program (including English, Maths/Numeracy, and GCOs, plus CSA Science). An education degree and Certificate 4 in Workplace Assessment and Training are required; adult education experience preferred. 5. Practical Matters: Theoretical Practices - Victoria University

7. Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre Volunteer Tutor Training Course
We are looking for people interested in tutoring an adult who has difficulties with reading and writing. They need to be able to commit two and a half hours per week to training and then to working with a student.
The 7 week non- accredited training course starts soon with an Information session on July 6th.

8. Teaching Literacy and ESL: Blending the Theory with the Practice
A Professional Development Program for ACFE teachers
Victoria University’s School of Further Education, Arts and Employment
Services - Semester 2, 2005 and Semester 1, 2006 focussing on blending the theory and practice of teaching Literacy Methodologies and/or ESL Methodologies.
There will be two Literacy modules - Literacy Methodologies and Advanced Literacy Methodologies (76 hours) and 1 TESOL module - TESOL Methodologies (36 hours).

9. ‘Contacts’ update
VALBEC  continues to update the ‘Contacts’ database. It lists courses and programs conducted by neighbourhood houses and learning centres, TAFE colleges and like organisations and is available to the public electronically, in print form and via the web http://www.valbec.org.au/05/contacts.html. The project is supported by ACFE.
