Conference Keynote Speaker, Dr Dalal SmileyVALBEC is thrilled and proud to announce its 20th May, 2022 Conference Keynote Speaker, Dr Dalal Smiley! Dalal is an internationally recognised, award-winning adult educator and lifelong learner who migrated to Australia in 1976 following the civil war in Lebanon. Dalal’s migration experience led her to a career in migrant settlement and language services, studies in social sciences, public policy, diversity and business management, and work at all government levels and the not-for-profit sector where she founded the Victoria Arabic Social Services and was appointed Victorian Multicultural Commissioner. In 2009, Dalal won an Emergency Services Foundation Scholarship to study diversity in emergency services in the UK. In 2016 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law for her contribution to the development of equity and social inclusion in Victoria. Since March 2017, Dalal has been the CEO of Wellsprings for Women, a Neighbourhood House and Learn Local based in Dandenong with outreaches to Casey and Cardinia. Last year she was a Learn Local Awards Finalist. What an inspirational woman!
