Metacognition and Trauma in Adult Learners

A VALBEC (Victorian Adult Literacy and Basic Education Council) Professional Learning session presented by Linno Rhodes.

In this presentation, Linno will provide an outline of how the fight/flight response can show up in adult learners and how teachers can recognise and respond with intention and empathy by using metacognition and other tools.

You will learn about the triune brain and its functions; the fight/flight response to trauma or stress; and what metacognition is and how to use it to stay calm, build trust and create safe connections for adult learners.

Linno has worked in adult literacy education since 2003 in Learn Locals and the TAFE sectors. She is currently working at Charles Sturt University in the School of Education. She is interested in the ways connection creates safety and opportunities for optimal learning.

Linno came fourth in the Under 15 hop, skip and jump at the Rosebud High School Athletics Day in 1977.

We look forward to seeing you there.
